This weekend I finally made my way down to the Forest City Velodrome to take in a bit of track cycling. What an amazing venue for both spectators and competitors, this is one sport that is full of action and Saturday's fun race program didn't disappoint. Over the next few posts I'll be showing you a bit of the action. This shot is really intended to give you an appreciation of what the track is like, the banked corners are 50 degrees from horizontal - it's amazing the bike can stay up on them. Another interesting fact is that the bikes have only one gear and no brakes, you must slow your pedaling to slow the bike - I was told that this helps to prevent crashes since there are no sudden stops. If you are into cycling and are in the London, Ontario area and would like to have a go they have a introductory session with coaching and bike rental for only $30.
